Biography
My research concerns quantitative studies of volcanic processes using a combination of field data, numerical modeling and probabilistic analysis. My main focus has been on the development of novel approaches to volcanic hazard assessment. I pioneered the lava flow simulations driven by infrared satellite data. Applied research includes the multidisciplinary modeling of volcanic processes occurring at different time scales through integrated analysis and joint inversion of different geophysical data; the combined use of ground-based and space-borne remote sensing techniques for the monitoring of volcanic activity; numerical simulations of the spatial and temporal evolution of eruptive phenomena for quantitative hazard assessment. I have been the principal investigator of numerous national and international projects focusing on volcanic hazards and the physics of volcanism. I have published more than 100 scientific papers in ISI journals on various topics in geophysics and volcanology.
