20 anni fa, nella mattinata del 14 dicembre 1991 ha inizio una nuova eruzione sull'alto versante sud-orientale dell'Etna, eruzione che durerà 472 giorni (fino al 30 marzo 1993) e sarà la più voluminosa eruzione etnea dal 1669. Nella primavera del 1992, le colate laviche stanno per raggiungere l'abitato di Zafferana Etnea, provocando una serie di misure con lo scopo di interrompere l'alimentazione dei fronti lavici. 20 years ago, on the morning of 14 December 1991, a new eruption began on the upper southeastern flank of Etna. This eruption was to last for 472 days (until 30 March 1993), and to become Etna's most voluminous eruption since 1669. During the spring of 1992, lava flows were about to invade the town of Zafferana Etnea, provoking a series of protecive measures aimed at interrupting the feeding of the lava flow fronts. This eruption also marks the end of a conspicuous series of flank eruptions at Etna, which had started in 1971, and the beginning of a new phase of recharging of the volcano. - A more detailed article will be posted here once a problem on the server will be solved, which has led to the disappearance of most of the recent updates on the site.
