VT-CLAIM
Volcano, Tectonic and Climate–Atmosphere Interactions through AI and Multi-Source Data Integration
Understanding Earth-System Interactions Through AI and Earth Observation
Objectives
VT-CLAIM leverages satellite data, field observations, climate models and AI to reveal the physical and causal connections linking climate, volcanoes and tectonics.
AI-Driven Causal Discovery
Using AI and multi‑source Earth Observation to detect causal links between climate variability, volcanic activity and tectonic processes, revealing how these systems influence each other across time and space.
Volcano–Climate Interactions
Assessing how volcanic activity affects climate dynamics — and how climate forcing can modulate volcanic systems — by analysing feedbacks operating at multiple spatial and temporal scales.
Climate–Tectonic Interactions
Investigating how climatic variability and surface processes influence fault behaviour, crustal deformation and seismicity, improving our understanding of long‑term Earth‑system coupling.
Explainable & Physics-Guided AI
Developing AI models that remain physically consistent, interpretable and scientifically robust, ensuring that data‑driven discoveries align with established Earth‑system knowledge.
Transforming Earth-System observations into actionable knowledge
VT-CLAIM brings together Earth Observation, Artificial Intelligence and physical understanding to explore how climate, volcanic activity and tectonic processes influence one another. Through causal AI, integrated data infrastructures and physics-guided modelling, the project seeks to advance scientific discovery, improve hazard assessment and provide explainable intelligence for science and society.
